Grifols Biomat USA Brookings, SD

Reviews Summary

Reviews are polarized, with many praising friendly, skilled staff (especially phlebotomists) for making donations quick and pleasant. However, frequent complaints cite severe understaffing leading to long wait times, poor management prioritizing profits over donor/staff welfare, and inconsistent needle insertion quality. Positive experiences highlight efficiency and personal care, while negative ones describe disorganization, untrained personnel, and dismissive attitudes. The center's performance appears heavily dependent on individual staff interactions and current management decisions.

Customer Reviews

I began donating earlier this year and Griffols was great! The maximum wait was normally an hour and a half. I understand that they have lost some people and are understaffed, but now the minimum wait time feels like two hours. It feels like some of the women work with zero urgency and are just there to get their paycheck. I am unsure of the policies that employees are supposed to follow, but it feels most of the workers don't care about the people that are coming in. Sometimes you can come in and be sat im

The staff are professional and super nice. The know you by name and go above and beyond. Cindy does amazingly well with poking and is highly professional. Lara, Emily, and Kira are absolutely awesome they are always super excited to see me and the all do awesome at their jobs. I honestly wouldn't want to go anywhere else - Everyone is super accommodating and extremely knowledgeable. A+++!

Since starting donating a couple months ago, I have always had a good experience with the staff and the overall experience. The staff are very pleasant and knowledgeable. I especially want to shout-out Kierra and Lora! You two are awesome! ??????

I love this place! The DCTs and phlebs are always so kind and outgoing. Management is awesome and they're always helping out.

If you're a Transgender female they kept using He/him pronouns I normally don't care about pronouns but it was constant by different staff so it made me feel i didn't have any dignity so i kinda felt a little attacked and very uncomfortable there

I have been donating at the Brookings SD location since they opened 7 years ago. Since the change in management, the place has tanked. There are no phlebotomists, no one to register, and the nurses have all quit. This is absolutely the worst I've ever seen it and I know without a doubt that it is management causing everyone to quit. The staffthat remain are excellent but they need to be paid better and treated better. Management needs to work with their staff, stop pulling power. I'm proud to be a doner, I'

Alicia made my 1st donation a breeze! She is so so kind and gentle! Kyla is such a sweetheart! She made me feel incredibly comfortable as I was nervous! Kham is amazing! She helped me get my blood flowing almost instantly after some issues! She made sure I wouldn't get poked twice! She is very gentle and made sure I was comfortable the entire time! These 3 wonderful ladies are amazing and deserve to be rewarded for their hard work and dedication!

Nobody was communicating with each other. Just clear your day because they don't value your time.

Always love coming here and i love the staff always makes me feel welcome and included!! if you wanna help save some lives this is the place to do it!!

Alicia is the best! She not only is great at her job, she makes me feel special every time I donate. I took a few months off and was so happy to see that Alicia was not only still there but also that she's been training so many new employees!

This is an excellent place to donate plasma!! All the staff are super kind and knowledgeable. I especially like their attention to detail, knowing everything is being handled correctly. Also, making good money in just one hour?? Seems like a no-brainer!

Been going here for a while now and most of the time the wait is minimal. Great, professional staff all around! Marcelo has done great these past few times getting me all set up and does a great job creating a fun and friendly environment!

Cindy is a great asset to your crew! She always is a smiling face when I come through the door and a joy to talk too! She makes me feel valued when I come in and makes me enjoy my donation even more! Keep up the great work saving lives!

It has been a long while since I've been screened in by Cindy, but it was very pleasant. She's been there since I started (4 years ago) and I have never experienced anything negative with her. She's always running around working and even when she seems frustrated, she always greets/ says hello. Was stuck by Eli, he's probably my favorite on the floor, he's efficient and his sticks are damn near painless. This is my 132nd donation. Thanks guys.

Alicia does an excellent job in her role as a phlebotomist and works hard to make sure donors are satisfied. She has a great sense of humor and loves connecting with donors. She works far harder than what she is paid for. Great job at keeping the center a worthwhile place to visit!

great experience love the personality of workers and how careful they are

Other than wait time, my experience has been good. Kham deserves kudos for ensuring things run smooth on the floor and that other staff feel confident in the work they do. Through observation, she is consistently being called for assistance and if there is a hiccup, she appears to take the time to help educate the other staff on what happened so they can correct it and learn from the mishap. I am not the easiest person to stick and am at ease when she is the one assisting me. Keep up the great work and appr

Edit to my review from a year ago..the manager has worked hard to build a strong team. Everyone works hard taking care of donors as efficiently as possible. They are still very under staffed which causes long wait times. But I do feel that the current employees are happier now than a year ago. They have a great crew, very friendly and helpful. Hopefully they have luck hiring more people like this to reduce the long wait soon.

Cindy was very helpful and pleasant to work with. And when I got onto the donor floor I was greeted by Kham and she worked her magic on my "red" vein (hard to find). My experiences at Biomat have been great so far. ?? Thank you Cindy and Kham!

While the staff is friendly and seems to try and do their best, the fact the decision-makers seem to ramp up promotions during the time college is in session seems counterintuitive. The potential donor pool is already increased substantially so promotions during that period do little more than create massive wait times and backlogs. I can only imagine how much stress this puts on the floor employees that are trying their best to take care of everyone in a timely manner.

Cindy did an excellent job making me feel comfortable during my initial exam process. Really shows the staff have excellent people skills!

Marcel is the best! He has never messed up sticking me with the needle, always makes sure I am okay, and gets me anything that I need! He deserves a raise and some praise!

The employees here seem to be extremely untrained. The first time the lady didn't seem to know how to properly insert the needle resulting in being hooked up to the machine for 2 freaking hours, with nobody bothering to check. And this last visit resulted in a massive pocket of blood forming in my arm within the first five minutes, which they obviously had zero idea how to handle, doing so by yanking out the needle before even preparing the gauze and wrap. The only time I've they've gotten it right was the

Staff is accommodating, timely, & proficient. Nurse Cindy is friendly and knowledgeable and makes a genuine effort to make the experience as smooth as possible and ease and inform all donors.

Cindy and Karla were the most friendly nurses ever! Alicia has the best stick by far. Always a good experience

Have been donating for 2 years ..continual improvements..Staff is friendly greet you, screener are friendly and efficient..phlebotomists are skilled and well trained....Facility has worked hard to make improvements in all areas . .wait times are minimal..

We got there at 5p as new donors and by 6:30p realized they still had not called us up. So I checked in. They only had 1 nurse and could no longer get us in and didn't realized when I told them we were new that we were new. Unsure what new means to them. So we drove over an hour away and wasted 4 hours round trip to not only not be seen but not compensated either. I told them if I left we would not return. They lost 2 new donors because they would rather talk about breeds of dogs than acknowledge they had n

Just wanted to say what an awesome job Cindy does, she helps out everywhere when she's not busy doing her nurse duties and is friendly and knowledgeable. Is is definitely an asset to the company.

Family will only use this facility. Elisha Love is an outstanding asset to you. Friendly and pleasant. Puts a frightened visitor at ease. Keep up the good work.

The people here are very kind, and very informative! Cindy especially! She was there for me almost the entire because of how scared I was! She is an amazing person!

I have been a frequent donor here for awhile. Twice a week, never miss. It has been a decent experience but I feel I need to speak up. Management is terrible. They make decisions to drive their profits at the cost of their overworked and overwhelmed staff and at the cost of their regular returning donors. Commenting it's only temporary instead of listening or opening their eyes. Regular returning donors get pushed around and overlooked because of these mass coupons they do. 4 hours I had to mess around to d

I have the exact same thoughts as Chance James. The staff are wonderful but this time of year the wait times are just too long. Appointment times are just a suggestion, they don't mean anything. The last two weeks I have waited over an hour to get to the floor, then additional delays once I get back there. My part takes 35-45 minutes but I am there for well over 2 hours. I think I will take a break until May when the year round donors will be needed again.

Cindy was great! She made the new donor process smooth and efficient for me. I would recommend anyone to donate plasma at the Brookings center.

Cindy made the time while I was here very comfortable. She helped me get set up for my hep b immunization program as well!

Staff is great but obviously making an appointment isn't really required. If I have an appointment I shouldn't be waiting over an hour after being checked in. If people done have an appointment...turn them away or don't require appointments. Also...stop with the fingerprints. It won't read mine and your employee decides to make me wait for everyone that comes in after me to do my check in. Three people so far. I've been here 30 minutes.

Employees are always in great moods and willing to help, great place to donate! Cindy was my nurse that helped today and she is always super friendly and helpful, thanks Cindy!

Marcelo is great!! he is very friendly and has a great personality. he checks up on you and makes you feel comfortable :)

3rd Donation today here, Cindy is so great and always makes me feel welcome, along with Marcelo! He's hilarious and so fun!

Cindy help me with screening today and she was as great as always, friendly and respectful, love my interactions with her, makes the process go smoothly.

Favorite place to be between classes and on my days off. Alicia makes every visit worth while with her positive attitude, even when she hasn't had the best day.

This review is for the hard working staff Not "Management" or "Corporate". The staff works hard and does everything they can to make my experience the best that it can be. But, when they are understaffed; over worked and under payed. You get what you get!

This center is very helpful and a useful way to pick up cash as a college student as well. Cindy and the rest of the staff were very friendly and approachable.

Jessica was very nice and welcoming. I get a little anxiety when it comes to needles and she always helps me through the process and smiles the whole way through.

Cindy, Carla, and Cassidy were the best. They were quick and efficient and all had smiles on their faces and gave me a sticker!

I've been donating plasma for the last 4 years in 2 different companies in Florida and now a days in Biomat in Brookings. In all of them you have to wait a specific time to donate. It's normal. But what makes the difference for me is the staff. The tem at this unit is amazing. I can feel that they really care about the donators. Since the reception, till the people on the back . Especially Jessica T. that I'm very thankful of the care he had with a friend that I refer and he was very afraid of donating plas

I've been donating here since they opened & there have been times where the wait was long but the staff has always been polite, professional & worked hard to get people in & out as fast as they can. Any questions or problems have been addressed right away.

Cindy made my first donating experience wonderful. She was pleasant and helped calmed my nerves.

The staff is very unorganized and the wait times are ridiculous. I should not have to wait over an hour for my appointment. Most times the wait is longer than 2 hours. There are so many things wrong with this place, management and staff that I don't have enough space to name all the issues. Management better get their act together and get the staff to work faster and harder so people can get in and out in a decent amount of time, i.e less than an hour and a half.

Kham was great, everyone does their jobs well. Hopefully the company is willing to hire enough staff to keep employees and donors satisfied.

Kham has stuck me numerous times and has done an excellent job each time! The entire staff is very friendly and great to carry on a conversation with!!

ive been donating for some time and Cindy & the entire Brookings staff have always greeted and treated me with the upmost respect and courtesy. i enjoy my time in the building

Donating plasma is a main part of my week and workers like Isabel and Alicia make it a pleasure to do so. Things run smoothly and efficiently from sign in to saline and they have you in and out in no time. ??????????

Cindy is awesome! She is very welcoming and doing a great job. Always a great experience.

Alicia is always so upbeat and positive! She makes donating fun! Appreciate all of her hard work and knowledge!!

Cindy was so helpful in helping me understand the process and what the hepatitis b program. I was asked about it today and she was nothing but friendly and again helpful.

I have been donating frequently for over two years. They ran a promotion for November to donate a certain amount of times and receive a $100 bonus on the 8th donation. Despite being swamped with school and work, I decided to give it go to help with the holidays. During my 6th donation they took a blood sample but somebody did something wrong and another sample had to be taken again during my 7th donation. Somehow my protein levels were suspiciously low and when I came in for my 8th donation they told me I c

Cindy helped today and she was so sweet and caring. Definitely recommend her being your nurse!

Kham was great during my visit and made sure that I was well taken care of. The process went quick and smoothly.

Alecia is the best Phlibomist I have experienced she is so kind and considerate always considered how you are doing and is always willing to help you ??

It's a very welcoming place with great staff, especially Kham she is the best phlebotomist I've ever had!

This place is amazing! I was in and out in no time. It feels great donating plasma knowing that it is helping out those that need the medication! The extra cash $$$ is nice too!

Marcelo and Kierra made my experience so much fun and kept a smile on my face!

Been a donor in and out for a long time. I get that there's an influx of college students, but if you cannot handle the donors that are your regulars STOP ACCEPTING NEW DONORS. This is the second week in a row that I conveniently couldn't get to my second donation because all these new bodies made their appointment before I could blink. There is ways to fix this issue, it seems they don't value the loyalty of some people.

I made an appointment. Brought all information needed. A young man looked at my veins and said that he would ask if the manager would put the needle in. The manager said he would not do it. I have good veins. I showed them the vein that the Blood Bank uses. I am in perfect health. They didn't even try to use a vein. They turned me away. I drove 40 minutes to go there. My fiance was with me, he is a black man. They said he has good veins. They turned him away too. Why?? I have never been treated so badly in

Use to be a great way to help people and make some extra side money. I understand that biomat is currently understaffed but they take too many appointments that they cannot handle. It now take 2+ hours to donate on a good day. A bad day you'll be here for 4+ hours

I started donating for some extra money. Then I found out how much good is done from my plasma. The staff here in Brookings is wonderful.

Marcelo was great! Super nice personality and great at taking care of his patients!

The staff are often nice, and very overworked (The poor babes) but... Be prepared to sit here for 3 hours before you get to donate as they don't have enough staff to bring people on to the floor, not enough capacity due to covid, oh, and they have people who are considered VIP... They buy some tag during certain parts of the year and then they get to jump the line. Its like a poor people backlog in here. It's a mess. It's almost impossible to actually know when you'll be able to donate. I think I'm going t

Huge waste of my time. Spent and hour answering all the questions and then waiting to get screened to just find out that I need to get my annual physical first and then go through the whole process over again. Certainly something that should be in the computer system when a person signs in so they can determine right away if they have the time to go through all of that. Very disappointed.

Love this place!! Cindy is the best and I always enjoy her company and her hard work ethic!

Staff was super friendly but the manager lady with blonde poofy hair made lose a lot of respect for her so I walked out because of her under cutting her team

LOWEST PAY AND WORST PROFESSIONALISM I've been coming here a while (using a pseudonym for this review). I'm not even going to talk about the three hours you'll be waiting in the waiting room, or the fact that when you're done donating and are waiting to get the needle removed, the employees are gossiping and paying no attention to the fact you're done and need the needle taken out. I've sat with a needle in my arm for over half an hour after I've finished donating here. Grifols has had a lot of problems for

Alicia is the awesomest and pretty much the only reason I still go. Thanks for your awesome self Alicia.

I have been donating for about a year now and it's never been this bad. I got here today and waited for almost 2 hours before I got in a chair and there was only 4-6 people in the waiting area.. Things need to change.

Not happy with the receptionist, tone of voice said, "you are boring me" and then was incredibly vague about every answer. I have my first appointment next week, I hope the actual center is more pleasant or one appointment will be enough

An amazing way to help others! Great staff. Very professional and friendly. The compensation isn't bad either but knowing that I can help other people in such a positive way is what keeps me coming back. Highly recommend!

hi I'm a regular donor at brookings biomat and I was misled on a flyer that went out about Beating the amount of donations of March and I donated every time in March so I was too consistent but where is the compensation for the people that are regulars here this makes no sense I should get at least something except for base pay

Went to donate, went through the new donor routine again (cause I havent donated for a few years. Stopped mostly cause of the way I had been treated, before. ) Go through everything, get weighed, then summoned back to talk to the nurse to be told, "You weigh to much, maybe lose some weight and come back then and donate." Excuse me, there nothing saying you have to be under certain weight (trust me, I checked and two, I've donated before, being a higher weight) Plus, I've seen bigger people then me go in t

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. First off, I walked in there simply to give plasma as I waited over 10 minutes at the front to be helped I was greeted by a very unethical lady. As I was told that i wouldnt be able to give plasma reasons being they couldnt prove my social security card. Ummm ok go look it up in the government databases. Needless to say I will not ever come back to this facility.

Kham has been one of the friendliest faces at the plasma center. I have been donating for about half a year now and absolutely love it.

Alicia makes donating fun. Love her personality! She is the BEST!!!

I had a great experience for my first donation today! Everyone is very friendly and comforting.

Alicia does a great job! She knows what she is doing and is very good with the donors!

Cindy, karla and kassidee are always so nice and helpful whenever i donate i highly recommend this location

Alicia is my favorite phlebotomist. She also makes my day when I can and donate. Brookings, Sd

Deserves less than 0 stars. Funny story; they told me I had AIDS. I don't have it (I went to the doctor after the whole ordeal.) The Plasma center asked if I would come in so they could run more tests. Several weeks later and nothing. I had to call to see what was going on. They said I was cleared, but I couldn't donate anymore because of their screwup. What. the. heck.

Friendly and helpful staff! Marcelo helped me get my fastest time by 20 minutes!

Great experience! I just gave my first donation, and every staff member was extremely friendly. I look forward to going again!
